Rich Wilde and the Wandering City Slot Review, Demo Play, Payout, Free Spins & Bonuses

Rich Wilde and the Wandering City is a volatile ‘book of’ mechanic slot from Play’n Go, and it plays out on 5x3 reels with 243 win ways. The 3 middle reels come with randomly activated x2 multipliers, and these can combine into x6 boosts in all stages of the game. You get the usual randomly chosen expanding symbol in the bonus round, and this can lead to payouts up to 10,000x your stake. Check our full review below, and test the free demo game.

Rich Wilde and the Wandering City Review

This is hardly explorer Rich Wilde’s first ‘book slot’ rodeo, but it’s the first time we’re taken to a valley deep in the Andes mountains on the search for the mythological Wandering City. According to the Patagonian legend, the city is filled with diamonds and gold, but it’s also protected by giants. What pops out immediately is the semi-transparent reels, which gives this book slot installment a refreshingly modern look.

A quick glance under the hood reveals that the usual 10 paylines have been replaced by 243 ways to win, but the symbol values have been sliced significantly to balance out the math model. The other thing that makes this release stick out is the x2 multipliers you’ll see above the 3 middle reels. These trigger at random times, and may also boost the Expanding Symbol payouts in the otherwise classic ‘book of’ mechanic bonus round.

Rich Wilde and the Wandering City Features

In most ‘book slots’ the top-tier Explorer symbol is worth 500x your stake, but the symbol values have been significantly reduced due to the 243 win ways. A lineup of 5 premiums thus pay between 2.5 and 4 x your stake, and Rich Wilde is the top-tier regular symbol. The Diamond Wild pays the same as him, and it serves double duty as a scatter symbol instead of the usual Book symbol.

The Diamond Wild thus steps in for all regular pay symbols to help complete winning combos, and the base game also comes with a Multiplier feature.

You’ll see an x2 multiplier above the 3 middle reels, and one or more of these can become active on random spins. If more than one multiplier reel is part of a win, the respective values are added together for up to x6 boosts.

You need 3, 4 or 5 diamond scatters anywhere in view on the same spin to trigger the Bonus Round, and this awards 10 free spins and a 0.8, 1.6 or 4 x your stake scatter win. A random pay symbol is then selected to be the special Expanding Symbol during the feature, and landing enough instances of it anywhere means it expands to award a full reel payout.

The expanding symbols do not need to land adjacent to expand and win, and the reel multipliers may become active and boost expanding symbols payouts, as well as regular payouts, during the bonus round also. You can retrigger the feature up to 5 times with +10 extra spins each time, and this is done by landing 3+ scatter anywhere in view on the same free spin.

The 200 Spins Rich Wilde and the Wandering City Experience

You get to see the multiplier feature light up the 3 middle reels plenty of times in the base game, but landing a multiplier win wasn’t all that easy. Our luck changed in the bonus round however, even though we got the low-value ‘10’ symbol as the special expanding symbol.

Review Summary

The Play’n Go team are certainly well-versed in the ‘Book of’ genre, and Rich Wilde and the Wandering City comes with a somewhat engaging back story and a highly refreshing visual presentation. The semi-transparent reels gives the game an almost futuristic look, which goes well together with the mythological hidden city in the Andes mountains. So far so good, but we’re unsure how the juggling of the math model is going to be received by the community.

BTG’s Book of Gods also comes with 243 win ways, and it can hardly be chalked up as a success for the otherwise popular developer. The random x2 multiplier reels feature means that the symbol values suffer even more in this release, but explosive wins up to 10,000x your stake are possible when things go your way in the bonus round. It’s hardly probable however, as your max win chances are a very slim 1 in 1 billion.

Pros

  • Refreshing visuals and 243 win ways
  • 3 middle reels w/ random x2 multipliers
  • FS w/ chosen expanding symbol
  • Win up to 10,000x your stake

Cons

  • Beware of adjustable RTP ranges
  • Low symbol values compared to most book slots

If you love Rich Wilde and the Wandering City you should also try:

Book of Gods - is a BTG ‘book slot’ that’s all but forgotten by now, but it’s an alternative if you want more than the regular 10 paylines. You get 243 ways also here, and you get a low-value cloning symbols feature in the base game. The cloning continues with a premium symbol in the bonus round, and you can win up to 5,000x your stake.

Rich Wilde and the Amulet of Dead - is another ‘book slot’ adventure from Play’n Go, and you can get up to 3 stacked wilds in all stages of the game. These come with a global win multiplier up to x5, and you can thus win up to 5,000x your stake (but only 2,500x from a single spin).

Book of Fallen - is a Pragmatic Play ‘book slot’ installment, and it comes with the usual 5x3 reels and 10 paylines setup.

You get to freely choose your special expanding symbol however, and the Super Spin ante bet allows you to pay extra for single bonus round-like spins in the base game. The max win is the usual 5,000x, and the volatility varies according to your expanding symbol choice.
