Age of the Gods King of Olympus Review
What do you do when you run out of gods to base a new game on. Well, you can always recycle some of them, or focus more on one specific god instead of many of them together like the Age of the Gods game does. King of Olympus, however, has its sole focus on Zeus, although his winged horse, Pegasus, also plays a certain part here. The game comes with 4 progressive jackpots, as usual for the Age of the Gods series, and the main highlight is the all-important bonus round.
The visuals are pretty much on the same “brick and mortar” level as the rest of the games in this series, something that’s quite typical for Playtech slots. It all plays out on 5 reels, 3 rows and 25 fixed ways to win, and you can place bets between 25p and £2,500 per spin across both mobile, tablet and computer devices. The base game does not offer much in terms of features, but you will benefit from a Zeus wild that can pay out quite well, and that’s pretty much it.
Triggering the bonus round is not all that hard here, and we managed that feat 3 times in our 200 first spins. Big wins are in no way guaranteed if you trigger the bonus round however, but we had okay payouts in 2 out of 3 of them.
The medium volatility makes it somewhat easy to keep afloat, although the base game offers mostly dead spins and measly wins. Keep in mind that the max win is capped at £250,000, and the biggest jackpot has been known to creep above £1,000,000 at times. If you enjoy the Age of the Gods series, you’ll probably like King of Olympus also.Similar Slots:
What are the bonus features?
Age of the Gods King of Olympus is not a very feature rich game at all, and the main attraction is the bonus round and the 4 progressive jackpots. We’ll walk you through what little you have to work with in the base game here, and then get to the main enchilada right after.
The main man in Olympus, Zeus himself, is the wild symbol in this game, and he’s definitely at the center of the action here. Not only is he the highest paying symbol by far, giving you a payout of 120x for 5 on a payline, but he will also step in for all regular symbols to help you form winning combos.
Being part of the Age of the Gods network, King of Olympus comes with 4 progressive jackpots as follows:
- The Ultimate Power Jackpot - seeds at £100,000 and is won on average around £600,000 every 6 weeks. The biggest win ever was around £1 million, and happened back in 2011.
- The Super Power Jackpot - seeds at £5,000 and is won on average around £30,000 every other day. The biggest win for this jackpot was around £70,000, also in 2011.
- The Extra Power Jackpot - seeds at £500 and is won every other hour at an average of £3,000. The biggest win recorded for this jackpot is around £8,000 in 2015.
- Power Jackpot - seeds at £50 and is won every hour at an average of around £300.
You can enter the jackpot bonus game at any given time as you spin the reels, but your chances for doing so will increase somewhat with the size of your bet level. When the jackpot game triggers, you’ll be taken to a new screen.
This is a 4x5 grid with 20 gold coins, and your job is to pick 3 matching jackpot symbols hidden behind these coins. You are always guaranteed one of the jackpots when you trigger this feature, and you get whatever jackpot that corresponds to the 3 jackpot symbols you match up first.
Free spins in Age of the Gods King of OlympusOutside of the biggest jackpots, it’s the free spins bonus round you’re really hoping for in King of Olympus slot. The temple of Zeus symbol is the scatter in this game, and you need to land at least 3 of this bonus symbol on the same spin to trigger the free spins round. You will also get a scatter win before the free games feature plays out, and you will always get 10 free spins no matter if you land 3, 4 or 5 scatters.
You’ll notice that the Zeus wild has inserted itself smack in the middle of the reels, and the time has come for this legendary greek god to really shine. There is a progressive multiplier you’ll see up to the left, and Zeus will send a bolt of lightning its way on every other spin to increase it.
You start with a 2x multiplier, and it increases with +1 for every second spin. This means that you will benefit from a multiplier of 3x on your third and forth spin, a multiplier of 4x on spin 5 and 6, a multiplier of 5x on spin 7 and 8 and finally a multiplier of 6x on the last 2 spins. Unfortunately, there is no way to retrigger the free spins round, and there is also no way to get extra spins here.
How to play
Some might say that if you’ve played one slot, you know them all. However, there are always some differences, and the interface will vary from developer to developer and sometimes even from game to game from the same developer. Although this part of the review is mostly for beginners, you can still skim through this section if you are an experienced punter. Who knows, you might pick up something useful.
We always start by checking out the paytable and info section of the game, and you do this by clicking the big “info” button below the reels. The first screen you’ll see is the actual paytable, where you can check out all the different symbols and their respective combination values.
You need to land between 3 and 5 matching symbols on a payline to win, except for the wild and scatter symbol that also pays out a small amount for only 2 matching symbols.Game workflowThis is a static paytable, which means that it doesn’t update according to your chosen bet level. To calculate how much each symbol combination pays per total stake you need to divide the respective symbol values in the table with the 25 paylines. For example, the highest paying regular symbol is the winged white horse, Pegasus, and he pays 40x for 5 on a payline.
You can also read about the bonus features and the jackpots by scrolling to the next pages, and check out the paylines info in the 4th and final screen. As mentioned, the game has 25 fixed paylines, and you can choose your line bet level via the + and - symbols below the reels. The bet range depends on the operator, but it can span from 25p to £2,500 per spin at max capacity.
You can turn on the Turbo spin feature right next to the spin button, but this mostly affects the pace of the game if you set up the autospin feature. If you spin the reels manually, you can click to stop the reels within less than a second, and this way you can burn through hundreds of spins in a matter of minutes. The autoplay feature comes with between 10 and 99 autospins, and you can still click to stop each spin short or use the turbo to increase the pace somewhat.

The 200 Spins Age of the Gods King of Olympus Experience
To be totally honest, we are not huge fans of the Age of the Gods series, and not of the somewhat generic “brick and mortar” style type of games Playtech usually churns out either. That being said, it’s always exciting to try new games, and we still looked forward to taking King of Olympus for our usual 200 spins test run.
This is among the fastest game sessions we have experienced, and we basically burned through 200 spins in something like 2 minutes. The only thing slowing us down a bit was the 3 times we triggered the bonus round (and taking notes), otherwise the whole session would have been over in probably less than 1 minute.
WinAs we expected, we saw a lot of dead spins and smaller wins at first, and we triggered the first bonus round after 40 spins, or so. The increasing multiplier is somewhat exciting, but we got plenty of dead spins in the bonus round too. Towards the end we hit a bigger win with the 5x multiplier, and got away with a decent 73x our stake. The base game continued as usual, but we noticed a 12x win between the lightning fast spins.
The next bonus round was triggered towards the end of our first 99 spins, and this time we won only 42.6x our stake thanks to the 5x multiplier. We loaded up the autoplay feature with our final 99 spins (the maximum value), and burned through tons of dead spins and minute wins until we hit the free spins feature again towards the end. This time we won a decent 78x in total, and it came from 2 bigger wins with the 4x and 5x multiplier.
Review Summary
If you enjoy simple, medium variance gameplay with a brick and mortar feel, Age of the Gods King of Olympus might be the game for you. The biggest jackpots add some excitement here for sure, and the bonus round is entertaining enough. It’s just not a great game in our view, and not the best in the series either. The ultra-fast gameplay has some advantages though.
It means that you don’t have to wait that long to trigger the bonus round, which is where most of the potential is allocated anyway. Keeping afloat is not all that hard here, and we wouldn’t worry too much about the bet size when it comes to winning the progressives. You chances are so slim for the bigger ones anyway, so it’s better to play with a bet level you’re comfortable with and see how it goes.
Pros
- Free spins with progressive multiplier from 2x to 6x
- 4 different progressive jackpots
- Medium volatility and £250,000 max win cap
Cons
- Just not the best game in the series
If you appreciate Age of the Gods King of Olympus you should also try:
The Age of the Gods series has grown rapidly in number since it started, and we’ve almost lost count as to how many games are out there now. Our favorite is still the one called simply Age of the Gods, and below we’ll also recommend some similar games for you that are not part of this jackpot network series.
Age of the Gods - is still the best game in the series in our view, although visually it’s pretty much the same as any of the others. Greek Mythology is the name of the game here too, but you’ll have plenty more gods to assist you in this game. Athena, Zeus, Poseidon and Hercules come with their own dedicated bonus round, and wins up to 5,000x your stake is possible.
Rise Of Olympus - is basically a reskin of Play’n Go’s popular Moon Princess slot, as everything is the same except the far more rugged and masculine appearance. It all plays out on a 5x5 grid, and a cool £1 million is up for grabs here. You’ll benefit from 2 different bonus features, as well as a choice between 3 free spins rounds featuring different gods and volatilities.
Gods of Olympus Megaways - is a greek god adventure jam packed with bonus features and a 10,000x max win potential. Visually, it’s far better than the Age of the Gods series, and with 4 different bonus rounds and massive wild multipliers up to 625x, it will take a while before you’ve run out of novelty in this game.
