Guardians of the Pyramids Review
The trademarked Ultraways engine from Northern Lights Gaming had its somewhat humble beginnings with Golden Stallion Ultraways, and it was ramped up significantly in Rocky's Gold Ultraways. In Guardians of the Pyramids, Northern Lights have polished up the visual presentation as well, and the futuristic ancient Egypt theme is a refreshing touch on an otherwise overused trope.
We like how the whole grid is shaken as all the symbols slam down at once, and the hovering spaceship pyramid on the left is not only there for the crowd-pleasing visual effect. It awards random modifiers on a regular basis, and these can be quite helpful together with mystery symbols. Each spin is a winner in the bonus round, which comes with a random multiplier and a solid 11,000x potential.

You win by landing 3+ matching symbols on adjacent reels from the uttermost left to right, and 10 of a kind wins pay between 0.9 and 1.1 x your stake. All symbols can appear as single, double or quadruple symbols, and this goes for the mummy Wild symbol as well. Wilds step in for pay symbols to help complete wins, and they pay the same as the top-tier symbol.

The Guardian Bonus Round triggers from 3 scatters in view, and this awards 5 free spins. Each spin comes with a random win multiplier up to x10, and you can get up to 5 extra spins. Review Summary
We are more impressed by the visual presentation in Guardians of the Pyramids than in the previous Ultraways installment, Rocky's Gold Ultraways. The pyramid that hovers on the left-hand side admittedly looks kind of neat, and it was pretty cool to discover that it wasn’t simply there for ornamental reasons. It activates on a fairly regular basis in the base game, and you get plenty of super symbol splitting from it.
The Wild Mummies feature triggers on occasions as well, and both features are capable of producing solid wins combined with the Ultraways engine. Let’s not forget the mystery symbol feature, and all modifiers tend to trigger more frequently in the bonus round. Getting extra spins happened fairly often as well, and the 11,000x potential seems achievable. It still seems a bit low for a game that touts “up to 60m win ways”, perhaps, but it’s up there with most Megaways installments.
Pros
- Single, double and quadruple symbols
- 10x6 grid w/ 60 million win ways at best
- 2 random modifiers and mystery symbols
- Win FS w/ up to x10 random multiplier
- Win up to 11,000x your stake
Cons
- Beware of adjustable RTP ranges
- Low overall symbol values
