Inspired Gaming have established themselves as a fairly reliable mid-range company, and we’ve already reviewed many of their slots. With Anubis Gold, they apparently want to step up their game a bit, and what we have here is an Egyptian-themed slot with 5 reels, 3 rows and 10 betlines. That’s obviously nothing out of the ordinary, but wait until we get to how the game’s free spins work!

As far as the slot’s theme is concerned, we can tell you that it’s your fairly typical Egyptian stuff. The audiovisuals are slightly below average in terms of quality in the base game, but there are some enjoyable animations waiting for you during free spins. It seems that the designers focused quite heavily on those, with the rest of the game suffering a bit as a result.

There’s no official word on the slot’s volatility, but we’d say that it’s medium-high. Big wins are certainly possible, but the actual theoretical jackpot is unknown. It can’t be higher than 2,500x, though.

Anubis Gold offers a set of 9 pay symbols, which are split into 4 low pays and 6 high pays. For low pays, there are just card ranks from Jacks to Aces, but even these symbols can pay up to 10x your stake for a full combination. In terms of specials, there are Anubis Wilds and Pyramid Bonus symbols. Anubis Wilds can substitute for any of the game’s pay symbols in winning combinations, and they are actually Expanding Wilds that expand to fill entire reels.

Land 3 or more Pyramid Bonus symbols to trigger the Free Spins feature with 12 free spins. You can get more free spins by landing both Pyramid Bonus symbols and Anubis Wilds, but there’s actually one extra twist waiting for you during free spins.

You see, each Anubis Wild that lands automatically upgrades a high pay symbol, with your progress displayed right next to the playing field. Your potential for high wins improves big time as you land Anubis Wilds, and there are special visual effects accompanying the fireworks as well. Overall, it’s a neat take on free spins.

All in all, we can definitely see some positives in Anubis Gold, but Inspired Gaming still have a long way to go if they want to compete with the very best. We like the nice free spins twist here, but the slot’s audiovisuals are fairly disappointing. Throw in the poor 94.90% RTP, and it should be easy to see that Anubis Gold can’t get a general recommendation from us.
